Nyhetsmedier er fulle av påstander som hevder at verden trenger GMO-avlinger for å kunne produsere nok mat for en voksende folkemengde, og at bønder burde begynne å benytte GMO-avlinger for å kunne produsere mer mat pr. dekar, produsere mat med mer næringsinnhold og for å benytte mindre insekts- og ugressmidler. Er disse påstandene sanne, eller er dette kun tomme ord produsert av GMO-industrien og deres tilhengere?
